When we came to our second viewing for the house, the, then current, owners said: In future you can cut the trees down at the front & make your own parking. We said- yeah, that’s good, something to look at when we get to it. Below picture captures the trees a bit.

When we came to the day to move in, we were quite a bit surprised to find out, that there were no trees. They were all chopped down, stumps left in the ground, all the mess left in the corner with parts of the tree trunks. Needless to say- we were not impressed. We were less annoyed with the fact that they cut the trees down without informing us, than they did half the job & left the mess & more difficult part to us.

As you can see in the picture above, modeled by Cooper, it was gravel as well, which ain’t our first choice. Fairly quickly we decided that we will change the front- get rid of the gravel, dig out the tree stumps, level it, turf it & put box hedging round as a little fence.

In total there were 8 stumps in pairs, so, it was very tricky in getting them little bastards out. I think in total we spent about over 22 hours digging them out. Every part of our bodies were hurting from digging, pulling, pushing, lifting & swearing. 😀 But we did it & it was an amazing relief.
Once the stumps were out, we could looking for all the stuff we will need to make it the way we want it. From memory- first thing we did we ordered our box hedging from Holwood Nursery. The owner Julie- is absolutely amazing. She showed us which plants fit our requirements, how they would grow, how far to plant, when to cut etc. Just such a wonderful women & garden enthusiast. 🙂
Then we, and when I say we, I mean the man- had to get rid of the gravel. Lucky we had a spare wheely bin, so we filled that, but that barely scrapped the surface of it. When we got our first 850kg bag of top soil delivered, man moved the gravel to other part of the front garden, emptied the bag & put the gravel back in there.

The first bag only covered half of the front, so we had to get another bag ordered. When the good man from Mick George delivered the second back, before 6am Thursday morning, he picked up the first bag we filled up & took it away.
We ordered turf from LC Turf & they delivered Friday afternoon, so our Friday evening was planned- finishing the front.
While the man was finishing to level off the ground, I was planting our hedging.

I think in total it took us about 3 hours to finish putting tp soil on, levelling, laying turf down & planting the hedge.
In below pictures you can see how it looks now. Apologies for the blurriness it was late & I was tired. 🙁

At the moment we will leave it as it is & will look at it again in the spring to brighten it up with flowers for spring/ summer. Maybe add some more garden decor, but we will see! 🙂
