If you have come across this article I will assume you are struggling with your dog pulling on his lead. Believe me when I say – I know what you’re talking about. We have 2 dogs, one of which is a young German Shepherd who is very strong, full of life and keeps pulling on the lead. Gencon is the second no pull dog lead we have tried – and it is brilliant!
Disclaimer – Gencon all-in-1 Headcollar & lead was gifted to me for a honest review.
What have we tried?
Since we’ve had Shelby we have tried several things to make our walks easier and more enjoyable.
- Collar with short and extendable lead
- Harness with short and extendable lead
- Different no pull lead
The first no pull lead/ head collar we tried earlier in the year, worked for a while. But he soon started pulling again, plus I didn’t find it being very comfortable for Mr Shelby. We always ended up having the carabiner part of the lead stuck on his nose and in front of his eyes. The scariest part about this was – it kept yanking his head back when he pulled a bit harder, which made us not want to keep using it.
Why do we love Gencon all-in-1 head collar & lead?
The biggest & most important thing is- it works! It is as simple as that. We have now been using Gencon for nearly 2 weeks and we are loving it. The walks are more enjoyable for us, Shelby and his older brother Cooper. Headcollar keeps the head secure and prevents the head from being pulled/ yanked back. It is much more comfortable of Shelbys’ nose. The lead is a perfect length- it gives the dog enough freedom to sniff, but close enough for you to keep him under control.
Shelby is a big dog that wants to say hello to every dog. But not every dog (and their owner) wants to say hello to Shelby. Especially with smaller dogs he gets overly excited and pulls a lot. With Gencon no pull dog lead I can hold the lead very close to the head collar, he doesn’t pull and it’s much easier to keep him under control. This makes my arm sockets happy and also keep my stress levels lower.

We can literally keep the lead on a finger & we’re safe as houses!
Would you recommend Gencon?
Absolutely 100% YES! I am not going to lie – I was worried about trying Gencon and it not working. What would I write about then?! But hand on heart – it’s brilliant. It does take me a little while to get my head around how to put the lead on (I’ll get there)! But other than user error – there are no complaints from us! And Shelby!

With Gencon working so well- we have restarted Shelbys training while walking – heel being the primary one to learn.
Which one do we have?
Right, so we have the all-in-1 head collar & lead in navy/jade and we walk Shelby on our right hand side (Coopers on the left). Link here for the one we have.
It says ‘one size fit’s all’ and I can definitely vouch for it fitting large dogs- 40kg German Shepherd and 30kg Labrador Retriever.
Gencon also have this same version for small dogs – link here.
They have advice, tips & tricks and videos on their website to answer any of your questions!
Hope this has helped answer some of the questions you might have about Gencon or which lead to choose for your best four legged friend who loves to take you for a walk!

I’m glad you’ve found a way to enjoy the walks again. Pulling is such a frustrating issue. I have a Belgian x German Shepherd and he’ll still have the odd day where he tries to walk me instead of the other way round! I think it’s a bit of a breed thing. Just discovered your blog and enjoying browsing, glad to have found you!
Hi Helen- thank you for reading & commenting! And yes, I do think it’s a breed thing, but getting better!
